NEW BRITISH AIRLINER

Maiden Flight Of < Britannia

(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, August 16. The first Bristol Britannia, Br-itain's new 60-ton four-engined turbo-jet airliner, made its maiden test flight at Filton, near Bristol, to-day. It was in the air for 20 minutes.

The flight was watched by officials of the British Overseas Airways Corporation, which has placed * a £10,000,000 order for a fleet of 25 Britannias for Empire routes.

The development of the Britannia has taken five years. Its estimated speed is 343 miles an hour, at 30,000 feet, with a range of 2710 miles. It may carry up to 90 passengers.
