PRICE OF BEEF IN AUCKLAND

BUTCHERS ANNOUNCE INCREASE (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 16. From Monday, Auckland housewives will be paying 3s for fillet steak and 2s 8d per lb for rump steak. These prices are contained in a«new schedule of retail beef prices announced by the Auckland Master Butchers* Association to-day. Mutton and lamb will continue to be sold at present prices. The association says that butchers are “absolutely compelled” to increase beef prices in order to minimise losses caused by the steady rises for beef since the last revised retail prices came into effect in April.
