MINOR FIRES

Units from the Central Fire Station answered a call received at 5.27 p.m. yesterday, to a fire in a heap of slack coal at the State Coal Depot in Moorhouse avenue. It was found that spontaneous combustion had caused coal on the under part of the heap to smoke. The fire was put out without damage. Units from Christchurch fire stations answered calls to -three chimney fires between 6 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. on Satday. All the fires were put out before any damage was done. The calls were to 5 Clare road, St. Albans, occupied by Neil, James Weenink, 44 Ranfurly street, occupied by Alister McArthur, and 14 Armagh street, occupied by Ernest Robert Field-Dodg-son.
