WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

Springston.—Mrs R. J. Tyson presided at the monthly meeting of the Springaton Women’s Institute The motto for the month was: “Some People Get up Bright and Early, But Some Just Get up Early.” The roll call was ”A limerick on the institute.” Further arrangements for the twenty-first birthday party were discussed. The monthly competitions resuited as follows:—small bloom, Mrs H. McDonald 1. Mrs C. N. C. Powell 2. Mrs S. J Wall 3. Large bloom: Mrs Wall 1. Mrs McDonald 2. Cluster: Mrs McDonald I, Mrs Wall 2. Spike: Mrs R. Harris 1, Mrs Powell 2. M.niature containers: Mrs Powell 1, Mrs McDonald 2, Mrs Harris 3 Best bloom: Mrs McDonald. Craft: Mrs O. T. Bailey 1, Mrs McDonald 2. Mesdames Harris and Paton (equal) 3. Cooking: Mrs McDonald 1, Mrs Harris 2, Mrs T. J. Meadows 3. Hornby.—Two new members were welcomed by Mrs E. B. Thompson’, who presided at the July meeting of the Hornby Women’s Institute. A demonstration on patchwork was given by Miss Luton. Competition results were as follows:—best indoor pot plant: Mrs Macauley 1. Mrs Fletcher 2. Mrs Commons 3. Best apron (made from a flour bag): Mrs Commons 1, Mrs Gorden 2, Mrs wellamore 3. Best eggless cake: Mrs Macauley and Mrs Pain* (equal) 1, Mrs Shadwell and Mrs Williams (equal) 2, Mrs Wellsmore and Mr* Gorden (equal) 3. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Kibblewhite and Pgglc Sheffield.—Mrs Bull presided over a fair attendance at the July -meeting of the Sheffield Women’s Institute. The Rev. Mr Norton gave an interesting address on china, and his rare collection wag dlsKand was much admired. Dawrant presided over a good attendance at the July meeting of the Mount. Pleasant Women’s Institute. A household quiz was held. Mesdames J. E. Mason and C. Murphy being first equal. An amusing competition was won by Mesdames Stanton and Wilson, and Mesdames Keenlyside and Gazzard (working in pairs, to make a frock from newspapers and a few pins), monthly competitions resulted a* follow*:—bed socks: Mr* Park.
