RECORD BUSINESS REPORTED
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 29. The Government Tourist Bureau ih Christchurch in the Feat ended March 31 transacted record business in th* tourist travel section, and the general manager of the Department of Tourist and Publicity (Mr R. W. Marshall) in his annual report attributes this to the Meiboufhe-GntiStChurCh ait service and increased sales bn overseas airways. Local travel, he said, had remained about the same as in the previous year. “The local demand for conducted tours has dropped considerably, and it would appear that the operation ot this type of tour will become increasingly difficult, ” the report said. “Their success, particularly as a high proportion of passengers ate overseas tourists, depends on the securing oi suitable accommodation, which Js becoming increasingly difficult.” The report said that the MelboUmeChristchurch air service had been Well patronised in both directions, and that representations were being made for extension of the service by mote frequent flights.
