Two To Be Replaced

APPOINTMENTS BY GOVERNMENT

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, June 3. The board of directors of the New Zealand National Airways Corporation will be reconstituted from July 1. Of the five members of the present board three are to be reappointed, "and two will be replaced. The members to be reappointed are Sir Leonard Isitt (chairman), Mr J. S. Hunter, of Wellington (deputy chairman), and Mr H. Worrall, of Christchurch. The two to be replaced are Mr F. W. Mothes, of Whangarei, and Mr W. W. Hynes, of Pahnerston North. • They will be replaced by Mr John Seabrook, of Auckland, and Mr J. G. Jeffery, of Dunedin. The Minister in charge of Civil Aviation (Mr T. L. Macdonald) said to-day that both new members would bring to the board a wide knowledge of business organisation based on extensive experience. Letters of appreciation and thanks for the service they had given while on the board have been sent by the Minister to the two retiring directors

No indication was given in the Minister’s statement as to when the Government would decide on the future of the National Airways Corporation. This has been uncertain for about two years, since the offer to sell the corporation “lock, stock, and barrel” failed to bring any acceptable tenders. Although several overseas and New Zealand groups tendered, it is understood that they were interested only in certain portions of the services operated by the corporation, mainly in. profitable main trunk services. It is understood that no early Government decision on the future of the corporation can be expected
