SPEECH THERAPIST AT KAIKOURA

VISIT BY MISS GANE A visit was made to Kaikoura last week by Miss G. M. Gane, speech therapist attached to the Normal School centre in Christchurch. An address was given by Miss Gane to the annual meeting of the Kaikoura Plunket Society on the scope of the work at the clinic, which she said was mainly the correction of speech faults and not elocutionary. The ages of patients treated ranged from two years to 60 years, and toe methods used were explained by Miss Gane. In cases where the voice-box had been removed, she said, the child or adult was taught to speak again. Miss Gane also paid a visit to toe Kaikoura District High School and some children with speech defects were interviewed with their parents and advice given.
