"The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, June 1. New Zealand’s richest jumping race, the £4OOO Great Northern Steeplechase, will be decided at Ellerslie to-morrow, when the Auckland Racing Club’s winter meeting will be continued. Run over a distance of about four miles and 25 fences, the Great Northern Steeplechase will be the first leg of the double. The runner-up in 1950, Savile Row, has made steady progress since resuming racing after a long rest, and he is expected to be prominent to-morrow. He has a good record over the Ellerslie country, and has gained three wins and two placings in five starts.
The second leg of the double will be the King George Handicap, run over seven furlongs, for a stake of £l5OO. There were showers again to-day. The forecast is for similar weather to-morrow, so the track will again be heavy. The following horses should race well:— 11 a an.—First Ranfurly Handicap* Ryarna, Darik, Dark Wings.
