OBITUARY

LADY RANSOM With the recent death of Lady Ransom, Dannevirke has lost a most respected resident and Knox Presbyterian Church its oldest member. Lady Ransom was born in Denmark in 1872 and came to New Zealand in the Winchester with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. E. Sondergaard. After living for 10 years at Waipawa the family moved to Dannevirke in 1886. In 1893 at Palmerston North she married Mr Alfred Ransom, who was knighted for his political service from 1922 to 1943. Of their five children, a son, Leonard (Otope), and a daughter, Ruth (Dannevirke) survive. Lady Ransom was patron of the Dannevirke Horticultural Society and took an active part in other organisations, including the Red Cross and the Plunket Society. She was awarded the George V Jubilee Medal in 1936.
