BREEDING OF DERBY WINNER
OUTSTANDING CLASSIC BACKGROUND (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) „ LONDON. May 30. Commenting on the Derby, the racing correspondent of "The Times" says: "it is almost miraculous the way this great test finds out weaknesses in all horses not bred on the finest possible lines. Thunderhead 11, one of the easiest winners at Newmarket, Warden 11.. and Silnet never promised to win. Yet Faubourg !I, which had been beaten by Thunderhead II a short time ago. but which is Derby bred was a creditable third.
"Tulyard is by Tehran, which was narrowly beaten in a war-time Derby and later won the St. Leger. Tehran's sire was the Derby winner, Bo is Roussell. Tulyar’s dam is Neocracy, and he is her first foal. Neocracy was bred by Mr P. Beatty, and she was sold as a yearling to Prince Aly Khan. She won the Princess Elizabeth Stakes for two-year-old fl.lies at Ascot and the Lonsdale Stakes at Epsom. Her sire was Nearco, sire of two Derby winners, and her dam was Harina. Harina was by Blandford, sire ol four Derby winners, out of Athnsy, dam of Trigo, the 1929 Derby winner.”
