LONDON’S WOMEN POLICE.—These photographs depict the span covered by a book written by a former London policewoman and reviewed on this page. On the left is a policewoman wearing the original uniform. The book records that women were then fighting for a place in the police force against considerable opposition. The recent pictures on the right illustrate how women have become an integral part of London’s police. Above, a woman sergeant just off street duty gives her report to the station inspector. In the lower photograph, taken at a training centre, policewomen and policemen recruits see an “accident” and are instructed by a sergeant how to make their reports.
