MR W. M. NORMAN

(New Zealand Press A*sociati<m> INVERCARGILL. May #. Mr W. M. Norman, who wm wett known in farming, local body and racing circles in Southland, died wadenly yesterday afternoon, aged 75. Mr Norman was a member of the Southland County Council for 38 years. For seven years he was ehslrman of the Otago-Southland Counties Association, for nearly 20 yean he *’as a South Island representative on the New Zealand Counties’ Association and for several years he was senior vice-president of that aswstl( He had a life-time association with trotting, and waa a life wambw, 0 ' almost all the racing ana trotting clubs in Southland. ~ For many yeara he was starter w• an the Southland clubs and was the first to introduce a patent release barrier which was later in general use ® most courses in New Zealand. His success as a starter at SWW' land trotting meetings brought his appointment as starter to bury clubs, and he filled this P o *™ at Addington, Ashburton. Brighton and other courses tor many years.
