SALE OF BEEF TO U.S.
DELAY IN SHIPMENTS TO BRITAIN (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 12. Meat operators were told by the Government on Saturday to hold all beef shipments to the United Kingdom pending clarification of the classes of beef required by the United States. This decision to withhold beef exports will also build up the amount available for shipment to the United States. This was announced to-day. by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr K. J. Holyoake), elaborating his announcement on Saturday of the agreement between Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom whereby New Zealand beef and pork shipments will go to the United States and Canadian exports of these lines —banned by the United States because of disease in Canada—will go to the United Kingdom. - Mr Holyoake said that final arrangements for the new scheme were still to be worked out.
