TRUCE OFFER BY MacARTHUR

NEW YORK. May 11. Brigadier-General Bonner Fellers said to-night that General Douglas MacArthur made his controversial truce talk proposal in March, 1951, because an intercepted message indicated that the Communist forces in Korea could not hold out much longer General Fellers, who directed psychological warfare under General MacArthur. said in a radio interview that the message, Which fell into American hands, was sent from Chinese field commanders in Peking. He said that the message reported: “We are out of ammunition. We are in a very untenable position at the front. Our losses are terrific. We must have tanks We must have supplies and We must have air power. Get us a cease-fire until we can build up." As a result of that message General MacArthur asked the Chinese commander to talk a truce or cease-fire. “That was one of the reasons General MacArthur was lifted out. They said he had gone beyond his job as a military commander," General Fellers added.
