(Rec. 8 p.m.) TOKYO, May 11. General Ridgway said to-day that his experience in Korea made him confident that in Europe soldiers of the different nations could also work and fight together. On his way to become North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Commander, General Ridgway will plunge into his new command with only a few days of briefings during 10 days in the United States. “The results achieved within and by the United Nations Command in Korea are, I believe, unparalleled in the history of a combined military operation by allies. These operations are rich in promise of what can be achieved in ah atmosphere of mutual understanding, mutual respect, and mutual confidence,” he said. The general served in Europe during the last war under Field-Marshal Lord Montgomery, who will be his deputy. Unlike some other United States generals similarly associated With the British commander, he never criticised him, and to-day he praised Field-Marshal Montgomery as a “brilliant soldier.” "I have for him the highest respect and warm personal regard,” he said.
