POPPY DAY COLLECTION
Sir, —I would remind Mr Maxwell that the accessible door to the Patriotic Fund is still ajar to eliminate the need for street sales of poppies. In reply to R. W. Littlebury, as an emblem the violet, daphne, carnation and kindred flowers, with their fragrant aroma, relegate the poppy into oblivion. The poppy is satanic and its by-product, opium, has consigned millions to premature graves and enriched devilish non-participant traffickers. Responding to Jas. Hill, the Patriotic Fund was subscribed mainly through licensed art unions and queen carnivals, specifically for the 1914-18 war. Instead of being dispensed in 1918 as a gratuity to returned men and women, in accordance with their disabilities and as compensation to bereaved parents, it has been frozen to embrace subsequent wars not visualised at the 1918 armistice. Nov/ in the 80 age group, necessitous parents are justly entitled to consideration.— Yours, etc., AVAUNT MR MINIMUM. May 12, 1952.
