STARVATION IN SOUTH KOREA

(Rec. 7 p.m.) SEOUL, May 8. Nearly 1,000,000 persons were reported to-day to be existing on grass, roots, and the bark of trees in southwest Korea. Government sources in Pusan said that the Kyongsan Province was the hardest hit by last year's drought, which, combined with the war, had left South Korea facing an unprecedented rice shortage. Rice prices have tripled in the last three months.
