The Minister of Health (Mr J- IlMarshall), who has been in Chriflchurch since Sunday Visiting hospital* controlled by the North Canterbury Hospital Board, returned to Wellington last evening. Yesterday he visited the Burwood Hospital, the Jubilee Home, the Dunlop Rubber Company’* industrial health clinic at Woolstan, and the Glenelg Health Camp. The Postmaster-General (Mr W. L Broadfoot), who has been undergoing treatment at Rotorua for a rheumatic complaint during the last month. Wil] leave hospital to-day. He will sjwpfl a day or two at Auckland before he takes up his portfolio—(PA.) The Soviet Minister to New Zetland (Mr A. M. Alexandrov) will arrive in Christchurch from Gray, mouth on March 11, according to advice received from .the Christchurch branch of the Society far Closer Relations With the U.B.S.R. He will spend the following day in the city and jn the evening he will be given a reception by the branch. Mr M. Boupov, an attache at the Legation, will accompany the Minister. The Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev E. M. Joyce) left on pastoral visitations to Westland yesterday. He will be absent for about twq weeks. Colonel W. S. McKinnon, of Army Headquarters, Wellington, who has been visiting the annual camp of Ist Canterbury Regiment and 3rd Infantry Workshops at Glentunnel, will return to Wellington to-day. Major A- E. M. Lawrence, whp bas been Deputy Assistant Adjutant-pen-eral at Southern Military District Headquarters, has taken up duty «• Deputy. Assistant Adjutant »nd Quar-termaster-General. 3rd Infantry Brigade Headquarters, Christchurch. Major E. Elliot, youth director of the Salvation Army for the Canter-bury-Westland division, has been promoted to the rank of senior-msjor.
Mr H. G. Whitehead, M.A., has t»«l appointed headmaster of the Whang*rei Boys’ High School. Mr Whitehead, formerly first assistant at the school, succeeds Mr H A. Henderson, who was recently appointed headmaster of the Napier Boys’ High School. (PA) Mr S. S. Preston. S.M.. of Wanganui, Will sail on March 22 for a trip to England and the Continent. He intends to return about the middle of November.—(P.A.) A service to commission the new secretary’ of the National Council of Churches (the Rev. Allan T. McNaughton) was held in the chapel ot St. Michael and St. George at the Christchurch Cathedral yesterday morning. The chairman of -the executive of the National Council of Churches (the Very Rev. R. S. Watson) conducted the service and the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. RevA. K. Warren) preached the sermon. Lessons were read by the Rev. W. T. Blight (Methodist Church) and th* Rev. L. J. Boulton Smith (Baptist Church) and the Moderator of the Christchurch Presbytery (the Rev. DK. Boyd) offered the prayers.
