Mr Chambers gave as the reason for his motion his objection to a recent leading article published by a Christchurch newspaper. * “ Mr J. M. Powell said that 95 per cent, of the poultry-keepers did not Know what was happening in the industry, and he thought tfie press was in the same position. “I am under the impression that the press is not aware of what goes on in our industry,” said Mr R. M. Mouat. I do not think they are prejudiced, a u d .{.would like to suggest that they attend any open meeting.” Mr Mouat said the issuing of statements to the press was all right, but there was no reason why the newspapers should nrint anv statement “If the reporters are present, they know the facts, he added. Mr A. M. Hill said he was extremely disappointed with the treatment the newspapers had given to a recent meeting held in the Automobile Association rooms. It had been one of the biggest poultry-keepers’ meetings the industry had held. There were press reporters present, but only one report appeared in the newspapers.
