BRITISH ATOM TESTS

Trial Of Civil Defence Equipment (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, March 3. Rome Office scientists taking part in the Australian atom tests will tty out equipment designed to protect civilians against atomic attack. The Home Office team will probably be led by Dr. Edward Paris, a leading British civil defence scientist. The tests will probably involve animals to try out suits for air raid wardens proof against radio-active dust. A new type of shelter will also be tested. By the time the bomb Is exploded, it will have cost £120.000.000, Which is more than three times the original estimate of five years ago when the Labour Government allotted £38,000.000 to finance the project to the end of 1951.
