Sir Alexander Johnstone, Q.C.. was appointed by the Auckland University College Council yesterday to take the place of Mr L. K. Munro on the New Zealand University Senate.—(P.A.) Mr M. L. Applegarth has been appointed senior supervisor of the clerical branch at the Chief Post Office, Christchurch, replacing Mr D. A. F. Smith, who has taken up the appointment of Chief Postmaster at Westport. Mr. A. E. Ludecke was admitted yesterday as a barrister of the Supreme Court by Mr Justice Northcroft, on the motion of Mr B. J. Drake. Cr. P. M. Velvin, chairman of the library and art gallery committee, and the City Librarian (Mr R. N. O’Reilly) were appointed by the City Council last evening as its delegates to the annual conference of the New Zealand Library Association, which will be held at Tirnaru from February 26 to February 29. Dr. Charles W. Turner, Professor of Dairy Husbandry at the University of Missouri, is at present visiting the animal husbandry department at Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln. Later in the week he will go on to the Medical School at Dunedin. Dr. Turner is in New Zealand under a Fulbright award and is studying the effect of hormones in the famous identical twins at the Ruakura animal research station. He is the author of a book on the anatomy of mammary glands of domestic animals.
