FINANCE FOR MURUPARA

NEGOTIATIONS IN WASHINGTON (N.Z. Press Association-Copyright) NEW YORK, Feb. 17. Negotiations for the partial financing of New Zealand’s Murupara newsprint production project would be conducted in Washington, the Prime Minister of New Zealand (Mr Holland) said today. Mr Holland, who arrived by air from London at noon, said that Mr Bernard Ashwin, Secretary of the New Zealand Treasury, who arrived in Washington several days ago, would carry out the negotiations. - Asked if it was expected that a dollar loan would be obtained from the World Bank, Governmental agencies, or through private financing, the Prime Minister replied that there might be a combination of the three sources. The production of newsprint would be an important contribution by New Zealand to easing the sterling area’s dollar problem, said Mr Holland. Any exportable surplus from the Murupara project would be made available to Australia. Mr Holland will remain in New York until February 20, when he will fly to San Francisco and on to New Zealand. He said to-day that this year New Zealand would send to Britain twice as much meat as would Australia and the Argentine combined.
