WATER FOR SCHOOL BATHS
COST OF SINKING WELL The supply of water to fill the swimming bath at Avonside Girls’ High School, when completed, was discussed by members of the Board of Managers of the school at a meeting last evening and it was decided to make inquiries into the cost of sinking a well. The bath would not be finished for some time yet. it was reported, and in the meantime could be filled from the city water supply until it was used by the pupils m the third term of the year. Mr W. E. Olds, who is chairman of the buildings committee, said about 60.000 gallons of water would be needed to fill the bath, which is 100 ft by 37£ft»- at a cost of 9d per 1000 gallons from the city supply. The cost of sinking a well would be about £3OO. The chairman of the board (Dr. G. Jobberns) said the board still needed to find £3OO towards the contract price of building the bath, which was £2950.. The Education Department had made a grant of £lOOO, the ParentTeacher Association had raised approximately £lOOO and the board had the sum of £650 in hand towards the cost. It was decided to raise the sum of £3OO by bank guarantee to complete the contract price in the meantime.
