KOREAN POLITICAL SETTLEMENT
U.S. Prepared To Negotiate (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Feb. 7. The United States is prepared to agree to the proposed Communist "recommendations” for a high-level conference to discuss a permanent political settlement in Korea, reports the Associated Press. A meeting would not be held until after the cease-fire agreement had stopped all Korean fighting and recommendations been acted on by the United Nations. J The Communist proposal was forwarded to Washington by General Ridgwa-y, the United Nations Commander. American officials said it would get immediate attention, and indications were that General Ridgway would be instructed to submit a counter proposal. The counter proposal would differ from the Communist plan in some respects, but not on the main point of holding a political conference if the present talks at Panmunjon succeeded._
