MARCHING CONTESTS AT TIMARU
SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS (From Our Oum Reporter) TIMARU, February 8. Entries from Nelson to Bluff have been received for the South Island marching championships, to be held at the Caledonian grounds to-morrow. Among the entrants are Pirates and Caledonian, first and second respectively, in the Canterbury championships held in Christchurch a fortnight ago. The Dominion chief judge. Mr R. H. Hill (Wellington), will be present. The panel of judges with him will be Messrs A. Beaumont (West Coast). J. Gilbert (South Canterbury), J. Keenan (South Canterbury), E. O’Leary (Otago), J. D. Rodger (Otago), L. R. Robertson (Canterbury), A. Stark (Canterbury), H. Cameron (Otago), and S. Carswell (South Canterbury, pace counter). Mr and Mrs C. E. Thompson (South Canterbury) will judge the costumes, and the chief marshal will be Mr W. G. Corbett.
The grand parade will begin at 1.55 p.m., the salute at 2 p.m., and competition marching at 2JO pun.
