Mr J. G. Melvor, of Pahiatua, has been appointed engineer to the Cook County Council. Mr Melvor, who is at present engineer to the Pahiatua County Council, previously held Similar posts with the Inglewood and Egmont County Councils.—(P.A.) Mr H. O’Reilly, of the Atlas Assurance Company, was elected chairman, Mr N. J. G. Speary, of the South British Insurance Company, vicechairman, at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Fife and Accident Underwriters’ Association. Mr David Syttion, of Wellington, an engineer employed on the hydroelectric scheme at Maraetai, has been appointed a senior assistant engineer with the Portland Harbour Trust, Victoria. He will leave for Australia by air to-day.—(P.A.) Mr R. Fulton, of New .Plymouth, Was re-elected president of the New Zealand Drivers Federation at a meeting of the council of the federation in .Wellington. Mr T. Magee, the present secretary of the Wellington Drivers’ Union, was elected national secretary. -(PA.) Mr A; V. Just, who recently retired from the position of secretary of the Canterbury Fire and Accident Underwriters’ Association, has been appointed technical officer for the South Island by the council of underwriters’ associations in New Zealand. The new secretary of the Canterbury association is Mr J. W. Angell.
