NEW BOOK OF INTEREST TO HOME-BUILDERS Helpful advice to prospective New Zealand home-builders is contained in a booklet just published, entitled "The New Zealand House,” written by ths “Home Architect’ of the "Weekly News,” Auckland. The book is divided into three sections—hints on construction and planning, some plans and descriptions oi houses and sections and their orientation to sun and view and a general specification which will enable th« average home builder to appreciate the extent of the work involved, its nature, his privileges and the responsibilities with which he must be familiar before a contract is signed. As a means of reducing the cost ol of the house as much as possible the author recommends sound planning ai being of primary importance. an<! work by the home-builder on th< house as a means of making up th« difference between the total cost ol the house and the available finance The first section of the book—hint: on construction—gives the homebuilder an idea of how the house ii constructed, the materials used in iti construction, the requirements of th* State Advances Corporation regardini materials and specifications for certaii sections of a house, and an Insigh into what the home-buidler can do ti help reduce the cost of the house bj helping in its construction. Thirtplans of houses, designed for economy sun and view are added features o the book.
