INTEREST IN MINING An Englishman who lives in Santiago, the capital of Chile, and who is interested in the Chilean mining industry. Mr D. Chapple, has been visiting Christchurch this week during w ? ek - s ’ , sta 7 in New Zealand. Mr Chapnle is looking at tho mining and dredging industry in New Zealand and meeting some business acquaintances. Copper mining was the most important industry in Chile, supporting about two-thirds of its economy, said Mr Chapple. Current rearmament nrogrammes had had the effect of raising the copper price. That is probably because the control of the economy is less rigorous than in the sterling area.”
