CHAMPIONSHIPS AT AUCKLAND
N.Z. GIRLS’ JUNIOR RECORD BROKEN

In winning the 220 yards intermediate girls’ Auckland backstroke championship at the Olympic Pool on Saturday night, 15-year-old Barbara Hudson registered 3min 5 l-ssec, breaking by 2-ssec the New Zealand junior record held by Miss Myra Wilson, of Otago.
F. R. Lucas, who will leave for the United States on Tuesday, won the 220 yards men's freestyle from W. M. Amos, in 2min 20 2-ssec. The women’s 220 yards freestyle was won by Miss Margaret Menzies in 2mln 45 4-ssec. Other winners were:— D. Branch, the 110 yards n.en’s backstroke, Imln 16 l-ssec; T. Eagle, 220 yards men's breaststroke.- 3min 4 2-ssec; R. Woodall, 220 yards intermediate boys’ backstroke, 2min 52 l-ssec; J. Hawlev, 110 yards intermediate boys’ freestyle. 68 3-5 sec.
WORLD JUNIOR RECORD TO B. DARKE
(N.Z Press Association -Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 12. The Australian 15-year-old swimmer, Barry Darke, last evening became the first junior swimmer in the world to break one minute for the 110 yards. At the Olympic pool Darke took 59.9 seconds to win the New South Wales junior championship by three yards from John Devitt.
The previous junior record for the distance was 61 seconds. The Frenchman, Alex Jany, reduced the Australian open 116 yards record to 59 seconds in January last year.
