Passengers on the GreymouthChnstchurch rail-car, Which broke down in thfe Otira tiinhel on Saturday Wete all most grateful to the Railways Department officials who entertained them while thfey waited for a reliief rail-car to come from Greymouth. Supper was provided for the passengers, a dance hall was opened arid a sqUbrfe dahce organised. Thfe Stoppage, Which was caused by a broken Connecting rod, occurred aboiit 7.50 p.m. When the bail-car was about three miles through the tunnel. The guard, Mr Ward, walked back to Otira and sent an electric engine to push the rail-ear through the tuniiel to Atthiir’s Ffess.
The engine arrived in the tunnel about 9.50 p.m. and it Was 10.43 p.m. Wneh the engine, pushing the rail-car, arrived at Arthur’s Pass, where the passengers alighted and waited for the relief car ffffiri GbeyffioUth. The relief rail-ear left Greymouth aboiit 10:45 p.ffi. and arrived ift Arthur’s Pass about 12.43 a.ffi. It left with the passetigers at 1.15 a.ffi. and drew into Christchurch station at 3.35 a.m.
