PAEAN WINS PRESIDENT’S
(New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. January 13. The Mangere trainer, H. Purdon, won three races in succession. Including both legs of the totalisator double, with Paean and Hidden Wealth, on the- final day of the Taranaki Trotting Club’s annual meeting at New Plymouth on Saturday. The weather was fine, the track fast, and there was a large attendance. The totalisator handled £31,012, compared with £32,875 10s for the corresponding day last year. The total for the meeting was £59,017 15s, compared wtih £64,456 10s last year, a decrease of £5439 ss. The winning double paid £l9 8s for £l. An Inquiry was held into the running of Combateer, which wen the Waimate Handicap at the Timaru Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday by a half-head from Super Sound. After hearing the evidence of the stipendiary steward and the owner-driver of the bone, V. Albom, it was found that Combateer had paced some of the way, and it was decided to disqualify him from the race and place Super Sound first Stuart King second, and Will Scarlet third."-
An inquiry was held into the running of Crimea in the Fairlie Handicap. After hearing the explanation of the driver, D. C. Watts, that the horse met interference two furlongs from home, and the evidence of the trainer, V. Leeming, it was decided to take no action.
