TEN-DAY COURSE FOR SEA CADETS
TRAINING ON MOTUIHE ISLAND "The Press” Special Service
AUCKLAND, January 9. Thirty-eight schoolboys from Auckland and Wellington are attending a 10-day course arranged for the Sea Cadet Corps at H.MJf.Z.S. Tamaki on Motuihe Island.
The 20 Auckland cadets belong to the Auckland Headquarters Division and the Northcote College, Takapuna Grammar School and Western Suburbs ‘tub-divisions. The training period will °nd on January 17. Sub-Lieutenant C. R. E. Parker, who commands the King’s College sub-divi-sion of the Auckland Sea Cadet Corps, is in charge of the camp. The ages of the boys range from 12| years to 174, and they are regarded as a particularly young draft. About nine of them have done the course before, and four have been to sea in H.M.N.Z.S. Bellona.
The purpose of the course, which began on Monday, is to stimulate then boys’ interest in the Navy as a career, and to preserve their interest in the Sea Cadet Corps. Discipline is strict,
but the boys are enjoying their work and new surroundings, and are making the most of their opportunities for recreation and forming new friendships. A day after the present intake of Vadets leaves Motuihe, another 40 boys from the South Island will arrive for 10 days’ training. Fifty-five more seamen boys are expected on January 17.
