OBITUARY

MR L. G. MATTHEWS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. December 15. A well-known trade union official, Mr L. G. Matthews, died in the Wellington Public Hospital last night. Mr Matthews was secretary of the Auckland Drivers’ Union, and last month was appointed secretary pro tern of the New Zealand Drivers’ Federation on the death of its former secretary, Mr A. C. Melville. Mr Matthews held office as secretary of the Auckland Drivers’ Union for about 15 years. Before that he was the union’s organiser, and earlier this year he was elected president of the New Zealand Drivers’ Federation.
