Poor visibilities have been reported regularly from the New Hebndes, and at times from New FHi ed frnm aircraft approaching r ,? m the south-west, south or north have commented on the increase in haziness. itself the decrease in visit eei L aided by smoke from dus \ resulting from the prolonged dry spell, and by the frequent presence of a temperature inversion in the upper air which has prevented free convection and has thus concentrated the smoke and dust particles m the lower levels. It has also been reported that a volcano is active m one \of the islands of the southern Hebrides, which would also add to the general haziness.
