WARSHIPS INTO FRIENDSHIPS

Sir, —Although I am a republican I hail the glorious decision of the King and Queen to use the battleship Vanguard for a pleasure cruise. Their Majesties are thus giving the world a lead and restoring Britain’s place among the' civilised nations. Following the example of the Royal couple, the British and other navies can offer an opportunity for tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of people to see the world, to enjoy a delightful holiday, to foster comradeships and so on. The vistas opening up in this matter are endless. The cost of refitting the ships would not be higher than that for Royal trips. Will the suggestion be taken up?—Yours, etc., LIBERTARIAN. November 30, 1951.
