AMATEUR TOURNAMENT AT PETONE
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 10. Amateur boxers wishing to enhance their prospects of selection for the New Zealand Olympic Games team at Helsinki are expected to take part in an allamateur open-air fixture at Petone on February 16. The fixture, which is being promoted by the Hutt Valley association, will be of about three hours’ duration, and there will be a minimum of 15 bouts. The chairman of the association's management committee (Mr O. Silberry) said the New Zealand Boxing Council had approved the fixture. He made it clear, however, that the bouts would not be recognised as the Olympic Games trials but he thought much importance would be attached to the results.
