WOMEN REPRESENTED IN EXHIBITION
Women artists are well represented in this year’s exhibition of the Nev.Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, Which was opened by the Governor-General (Lord Freyberg) in the National Art Gallery, Wellington, last night. Among pictures of Canterbury interest is one by Evelyn Page—an oil painting of Rachel and Katharine, daughters of Mr and Mrs Leicester Webb, formerly of Christchurch. Rata Lovell-Smith, Christchurch, has landscapes in oils, one of the lower Kauarau and the other "Willows in Wairarapa." Four mountain landscapes in oils are shown by a Canterbury artist, Grace Butler.
Another Canterbury artist, Esther Hope, has three landscapes, in water colour, typical of the Mackenzie country. Elizabeth Wallwork’s colourful portrait is of Sir Erima Northcroft Recently returned to New Zealanu, Mrs Ralph Vane (K. Alrini Vane), has two water colours hung, one a New Zealand scene, the other painted in Cyprus. Enga Washbourn, Nelson, has had two landscapes selected. N. E. Baird Frib.erg, Christchurch, has a market scene Tn Fiji where she has recently been painting. It is “The Market Day. Levuka,” a large water colour. Ivy Fife exhibits woolshed Scene* in oils, and three large oil landscapes of Canterbury scenes are the work of a Christchurch artist, Rona Fleming. A new exhibitor, Valerie Heinz, also of Christchurch, is showing a landscars in oils.

Jenny Campbell, Helen Stewart, Beatrice Seddon, Ruth D Brown, Peggy Spence-Sales (all of Wellington), Pamela Waddell, Louise Henderson, A. Loi* White, Alice F.
