CANADIANS ARRIVE IN AUCKLAND
INQUIRIES REPORTED FROM MIGRANTS (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 23. Canadian travel agents were receiving many inquiries from people who want to come to New Zealand to live, said Mr Angus Kennedy, of Toronto, in Auckland to-day. “Most of these people are young couples, and they are casting their eyes on New Zealand,” he continued. “They are worried by accommodation shortages and the stupendous cost of living. My last inquiry wks from a man who wants to go into the hotel business in New Zealand. He does not mind what branch he takes up. He has a wife and ,two children, and believes he has a greater chance here.” Mr Kennedy was one of a party of three Canadian travel agents who arrived from Suva to-day. At the invitation of the Government, they will spend more than a fortnight touring the country. The other members of the party are Mrs Doris Sims, of Toronto, and Mr J. A. Barber, of Canadian Pacific Airlines. “My main trouble is that I haven’t any literature about your hotels.” Mrs Sims said. “When people ask me if they can come to New Zealand, I can’t tell them where to stay. We have hotel guides, but you don't seem to,”
Mrs Stas added that Australia and Fiji also lacked guides. She would make sure that she obtained some information before she returned w Canada. Canadian Pacific Airlines hoped to begin its service from Sydney to North America, by way-of Auckland, early in the New Year, Mr Barber said. He hoped the line would have the right to set down and take off passengers for North America. Mr Barber confirmed that his company would bring jet-propelled Comet aircraft into the Pacific service next year, and said the present date for the start was September 1.
