TIMARU WATER SUPPLY
FLOODS CAUSE BREAK IN PIPE LINE
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, October 23. For the second time this year, Umaru’s water supply has been interrupted, and the city has been asked to reduce consumption. When the Pareora river rose in flood during the week-end, the pipe-line viaduct at Purves’s crossing was threatened; Last night, the pipe was breached after the flood waters had washed out one of the pipes. An inspection was made by the City Engineer (Mr R. J. Comrie) this morning. Mr Ccmrie said later that the river was still too high for repairs to be begun. After the April floods, Timaru water supplies were affected for more than a week. The crossing which was broken last night was a temporary one put in after the April floods. The levels of all South Canterbury rivers are now dropping.
