WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS
Cooper’s Creek.—The Cooper’s Creek branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers held its monthly meeting in the Cooper’s Creek Hall, Miss Lowe presided over a' good attendance of members. The roll call 'was a sandwich filling. The guest speakers were Miss Lowe and Mrs Frizzell. Competition results were as follows;—cabbage: Mrs McGrath. Shortbread: Mrs Bowman' 1. Mrs Hill and Mrs Marsh (equal) 2. Apron: Mrs Marsh 1, Mrs Taylor 2, Mrs McGrath and Miss f ree (equal) 3. Christchurch.—Mrs A. E. G. Lyttle presided at the August- meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Women’s Division Of Federated Farmers. Miss Morrison read letters of thanks from people in England who had received food parcels from the branch. The hostess was Mrs Clarke. Greenpark.—Mrs D. Watson presided at the August meeting Of the Greenpark branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Arrangements were made for the sixteenth birthday party to be held in September. The president reported on the recent Dominion confer-, ence and congratulated Mrs I. L. M. Coop on her election as Dominion president. There was a good response to the appeal for tinned food to be forwarded to elderly people in Britain. Competitions resulted as follows:—jug cover: Mrs L. Eden 1, Mrs Rickerby 2, Mrs L. Dulleu 3. Boon Hay.—Mrs Rountree presided at the August meeting of the Hoon Hay branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers and gave a report on the Dominion conference. After the general business of the meeting, an interesting talk was given by Mrs Timms on her visit to America. Competition winners were Mesdames Brown, Keith, and Rountree.
Woodend-Waikuku.—Mrs R. Borland gave a demonstration on pottery at the monthly meeting of the Woodend-Waikuku branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs Shea presided. An invitation to attend the Belfast birthday party was received. Competitions resulted ,as follows:—large bloom: Mrs Kerr 1, Mrs Ballinger 2, Mrs Little 3. Small bloom: Miss Dawkins 1, Mrs Forbes 2. Port Levy.—The monthly meeting of the Port Levy branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held in the school. Competition results were as follows:—large bloom: Mrs Williams 1, Mrs Steele 2. Small bloom: Mrs R. Jenkins 1, Mrs Field 2. Best carrot: Mrs C. Jenkins 1, Miss L. Richfield 2. Flowers in an unusual container: Mrs Williams 1, Mrs Field 2. Tea dish, to be eaten by the fire: Mrs R. Jenkins 1, Mrs Steele 2. Mrs Williams and Mrs R. Jenkins tied for the monthly cup. The roll call was a fabric cleaning hint. Hostesses were the Misses L. and N. Richfield and Mrs Steele.
Darfield.—The twenty-second birthday of the Darfield branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers was held recently, when the members of the Country Girls’ Club, under the directorship of Mrs F. Cridge, presented an international pageant in which every country that was represented at the conference of the Associated Country Women of the World, held is Copenhagen recently, was represented in national costume. The pageant was very colourful, and much appreciated by the audience, many of whom ware visitors from the surrounding branches of the Women’s Division or Women's Institutes. Mrs F. Cridge, president of the branch, welcomed the guests. and Mrs A. A. Stott, president of the North Canterbury executive, thanked the Darfield branch on behalf of those present for the invitation to be present, and wished them many more years of prosperity. A feature of the afternoon was the cutting of the beautifully iced twenty-second Birthday cake. During the afternoon cups and trophies won for the year were presented. Amurl.-At the August meeting of the Amurl branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers, a motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs Geo. Johns in fee death of her brother. Mrs M. Bethell reported on the Dominion conference held recently, and also gave an interesting talk about the origin of Flock House training farm and explained how it functions.'Miss Betty Preston was appointed as dressmaker to the branch. Musical items were given by Misses Gladys Wilson, Barbara Addjss, Mavis Clement, and Dawn jjockett, and an elocutionary item by Mrs p. Christopher. A competition for a bowl of mixed flowers was won by Mrs A. G. Black, wtth Mrs R. A. Hoban second. Russell’s Flat.—The September meeting of the Russell's Flat branch of the Womens Division of Federated Farmers was held in the Russell's Flat* Hall. Mrs Collier presided. Mrs J. D.
