DAIRY FARMERS PROFIT FROM WARTIME DISCOVERY. Penicillin has been acclaimed as one of the great discoveries of wartime scientific medical research, and new developments as the result of further research are coming forward all the time. Particularly important to the dairy farmers of New Zealand has been the Introduction to this country, in 1948, of Vetspen Cerate, a penicillin udder Injection for combatting mammitis. This was possible after scientists had proved the deadly efficacy of penicillin against Streptococci Agalactiae, the bacteria mainly responsible for the scourge known in veterinary circles as Bovine Mastitis or mammitis. Treatment of mammitis with Vetspen Cerate, which requires only three doses per infected quarter, la usually effective in bringing the cow . back into full production. Vetspen Cerate is made in New Zealand in the modem manufacturing laboratories recently opened by Glaxo Laboratories (N.Z.), Ltd., at Palmerston North, a subsidiary of Glaxo Laboratories. Ltd., Greenford, Middlesex, who pioneered the large scale production o£ penicillin in Britain. —Advt
