SYDNEY WOOL SALES
VARYING ESTIMATES OF EXTENT OF RISE (N.Z. Press Association-Copyright) SYDNEY, October 23. Though the Sydney Wool-Selling Brokers' Association reports that the rates when the fifth series of sales opened in Sydney yesterday were 15 per cent, above those of the closing Sydney sale on October 11, an independent wool authority estimates the rise at only 5 to 74 per cent. This authority says that, compared with the closing Brisbane rates last week, fleece wools were up 15 per cent, and pieces a little more. It is estimated that after the spectacular opening sales of the last Sydney series the market closed 20 to 25 per cent, down. The Wool-Selling Brokets’ Association report emphasises that yesterday's rise was more pronounced on broad wools, skirtings, and locks, with comeback and crossbred participating fully. '
