SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST
Sir. —It was noted that another Englishman unleashed his views concerning us, but his hearty back-slap-ping left me unmoved. The message I want to get across to my business friends and corilpatriots in this: the law of the survival of the fittest did not go out of business because the vastly expensive molly-coddling welfare State, with its corroding facets, sprang up in our midst. If their organisations are not geared to meet world competition, then I am not going to indulge in any crepe-hang-ing when they fold up under the impact of it. Again, the world is entering a new era which, for the same reason, will be dominated by Asians. It is our butter for guns, or lots and lots of their guns—without the butter. That is a grim prospect, which must be faced whether we survive as freemen or are subjected as slaves. — Yours, etc., BAGMAN. September 26, 1951.
