HOSPITAL NEWS IN BRIEF
Aged Patients.— As a reasonable standard of accommodation can be provided almost immediately in ward II at Burwood Hospital for aged patients the hospital committee of the North Canterbury Hospital Board considers that the ward should be occupied to relieve the shortage. A recommendation to this effect was adopted by the board this week. Mrs J. E. Mackay, who presented the committee’s report, said the recommendation had been made because the need for accommodation was so urgent. Burwood Home.— The Local Government Loans Board has sanctioned the raising of a loan of £25,000 to finance the erection of the new porters’ and male nurses’ home at Burwood Hospital. Public Risk Policy.— On the finance committee’s recommendation the board will increase the limit of indemnity under its public risk policy covering visitors to the hospital and grounds :o £2OOO.
Sanatorium Power Supply.— The Heathcote County Council will be advised that the high cost of installing a suitable standby plant at the Cashmere Sanatorium is not considered justified. The council had suggested that the board consider the installation of a plant. Nursing Publicity.—The secretary (Mr A. Prentice) was authorised to continue nursing publicity as in the past and to produce another booklet publicising nursing as a career. Advice was received from the Director-Gen-eral of Health (Dr. J. Cairney) that as a result of national recruitment advertisements in North Canterbury 739 inauiries for pamphlets had been received at nursing headquarters from 1947 to Julv 31 this year.
