OFFICIAL FORECASTS

“The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, September 17. The weather forecast for Canterbury. Issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 27 hours after the time of issue, is:— Situation: an anti-cyclone is over New Zealand, and a trough of low pressure is approaching from the south-west. Forecast: moderate to fresh northerly winds, backing southwest in the afternoon; fair and mild at first, brief showers and cooler after the wind change.

WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate westerlies; cloudv, with occasional showers; moderate temperatures.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

After overnight rain - and an overcast morning the day. in Christchurch yesterday was fine, with a moderate southwest wind and a maximum temperature of 53.3 degrees. At midnight the sky was clear, and there was a light wind from the north-east. The temperature was 42.8 degrees. The barometer at 30.065 in (1018.1 millibars), wa,s falling rapidly.
