INQUEST HELD AT RANGIORA

A verdict that death had resulted from accidental drowning was returned by the Coroner (Mr Raymond Ferner) at an inquest held at Rangiora yesterday into the death of Richard James Petrie, aged 17 months, a son of Mr and Mrs James Petrie, of Coldstream, near Rangiora. The child was found lying in a water trough near where his father was ploughing on Monday afternoon. Evidence was given that Dr. A. P. Cotter and Mr L. D. Hawkins tried to resuscitate the child without success.
