RAILWAYMEN IN BRITAIN
WAGE OFFER NOT ACCEPTED
LONDON, September 10, Union leaders representing 500.000 British railwaymen to-night rejected the wage rise offered by the Railway Executive. The offer was not disclosed, but it was believed to be less than the 10 per cent, increase for all workers demanded by the three railway unions. The rise would have cost tne State £ 17.000,0C0 a year. The executive has been running at a loss since the railways were nationalised in 1947.
