CHRISTCHURCH CENTRE’S PROGRAMME

The Christchurch Bowling Centre has decided to introduce a three-bowl open pairs championship in the new bowling season.

The Manning Cup pennant series will be played this season, with two instead of three fours to a team. The pennant games will be played on Saturday afternoons, with the three-fours championship on Saturday mornings. These competitions will be played on November 3, 10, 17, and 24. December 8, 15, and 22, and January 12. An innovation will be the open pairs championship, which will be played on February 9 and 16. Three bowls will be used, the same as in New Zealand championship play, while four bowls will continue to be used in centre championship pairs.

The age limit for elderly bowlers’ day has been reduced from 72 to 70 years, and the games will take place on February 27. Dates for other centre fixtures are:— December 1. Steans Cup, v. South Canterbury, at Sydenham; December 1, Town v Country, town greens; December 27, 28, 29, and 31, Christmas fours; January 26 and February 2, open singles; February 2. Langley Cup. v. Ashburton, at Rakaia; February 16, Barnett Tiki, v. North Otago at Oamaru; February 19, secretaries’ and treasurers' pairs; February 23 and March 1, champion of champions pairs; March 8 and 15, champion of champions fours; March 13. Redpath Shield, v. Dunedin Centre, at Dunedin: March 15, Christchurch Centre v. Malvern. Sub-centre, at Darfield; March 22 and 29. champion of champions singles and colts’ singles championship; March 29, Dickson Bowl, v. Ellesmere, at Southbridge; Easter fours tournament, April 11, 12, 14. and 15. The New Zealand championships will be held at Dunedin from January 7 to 21 entries closing on October 27.
