FIJI’S AIR SERVICE
FEEDER LINE COMMENCES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) SUVA, September 3. Operating an eight-passenger twinengined de Havilland Rapide, an organisation known as Fiji Airways has been set up in Fiji to provide an internal air service from Suva to-various parts of the group. A second plane is due to arrive shortly, and an order has been placed in England for a threeengined all-metal de Havilland Drover aircraft, which will carry eight passengers. The service commenced on September 1 with two trips daily to Nandi airport at Lautoka. The trip to the international airport at Nandi, which is 134 miles bv road and takes about four hours, is flown in an hour. A daily air service to Labasa. on the island of Vatiualevu, will also commence when the present work on the Labasa airport is completed. While tourists might still prefer to travel bv road to see the country, and its native life,’ residents will no doubt readily avail themselves of the quicker method of travelling to the airport, and the savin* in time in mails will be greatly appreciated by the business community. Mr Harold Catty, the wellknown airman, who now resides in Fiji, is largely responsible for the organisation of Fiji Airways.
