N.Z. TEAM PLAYS AT AUCKLAND
AUCKLAND SIDE BEATEN IN PRACTICE GAME (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September It. A creditable performance was given by the New Zealand Association football team in beating an Auckland side by 2 goals to 0 in a practice match at Blandford Park to-day. Injuries, lack of an established combination, and a previous night's travelling were handicaps that faced the New Zealand side. The team will leave Auckland to-morrow and will fly to Fiji before going to New Caledonia, where it will probably play three matches.
The ground was hard, and most of the players did hot take risks. Several of them had taken part in the Chatham Cup final at Wellington on Saturday. A fine display was given by the New Zealand goalkeeper, J. Stephenson. Among the other New Zealand players to perform well were the left half, P. Traynor, who worked as if he was in a cup final. J. Mutlmer and. D. Ottley, the right and left wings, promise to be a formidable pair. Mutimer showed plenty of pace, and Ottley used a good driving kick.
Ottley and NewaU scored for New Zealand.
